The DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon is De Bethune’s latest exploration of its signature colour, blue. The 39 mm case offers a more compact version of the 2018 DB28 Kind of Blue, requiring a complete rethinking of proportions, materials, and finishes. For De Bethune, this is not just a matter of size but of light and how surfaces reflect or absorb it, how each element contributes to the watch’s aesthetic balance. Achieved through the thermal oxidation of steel and titanium, the brand’s distinctive blue finish produces a spectrum of natural shades, shifting beautifully under changing light. The dial’s microlight guilloché work deepens the architectural design while maintaining strong legibility.
At its heart lies the De Bethune tourbillon, a discreet yet technically remarkable mechanism. Unlike the showy displays seen elsewhere, this ultralight titanium tourbillon is engineered for wristwatches, built to withstand the shocks of daily movement. Weighing just 0.18 grams across 63 components, it is among the lightest in watchmaking. Its performance is equally impressive: 36,000 vibrations per hour, a 30-second rotation, and a five-day power reserve.
Made entirely from polished, blued grade 5 titanium, the DB28xs is exceptionally light and tactile. The 39 mm case, paired with De Bethune’s patented floating lugs, adapts seamlessly to the wearer’s wrist, enhancing comfort. A supple double-lined alligator strap and titanium buckle complete the design.
