The Ikepod Megapod Automatic retains the iconic Ikepod shape in a stainless-steel case, slightly larger at 46mm compared to the original Newson-era Megapod Date’s 47mm. However, thanks to its lug-less design, it wears more like a 43mm watch. This affordable iteration had to make some concessions compared to the pricey originals. The case now has a removable back for movement access instead of the original’s one-piece construction with a flush bezel.
The strap is made of rubber with a pin buckle, in contrast to the original minimalist Ikepod strap, which is now standard on the Apple Watch designed by Marc Newson. The Megapod’s dial design was created by Alexandre Peraldi, the former design chief of Baume Mercier.
The Megapod offers four dial styles with various color options and finishes: the M000 Series with small five-minute numerals, the M100 Series featuring large engraved hour numerals, the unique M200 Series with large hour numerals partially hidden beneath the minutes track, and the M300. The dials come in matte, circular, radial-brushed, and grained finishes.
The watch houses the Miyota 9039 movement, visible through a sapphire case back. This movement boasts a 4 Hz frequency, a 42-hour power reserve, and hacking seconds, and it is produced by the movement maker owned by Citizen. The Megapod combines the Ikepod’s distinctive design with affordability, making it an appealing choice for those interested in its unique aesthetic.
