IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled a striking new addition to its Colors of TOP GUN collection with the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Miramar. This 1’000 piece limited-edition model introduces a light blue ceramic case developed in collaboration with Pantone®. Inspired by the light blue t-shirts worn by TOP GUN instructors, this shade brings a fresh twist to the collection, which has previously featured more neutral tones like Mojave Desert and Lake Tahoe. The matching dial and rubber strap complete the cohesive look, creating a bold yet refined look.
Creating a colored ceramic watch is a sophisticated process, and IWC’s expertise is evident in every detail. The light blue color is derived from a precise mix of zirconium oxide and metallic oxides, requiring several trials to perfect the hue. The challenge of transferring the new color to other components of the watch, such as the dial and strap, further highlights the complexity of the manufacturing process. Each element requires a specific approach to ensure consistency and quality, which IWC has mastered over the years.
At the heart of the Miramar is the IWC-manufactured 69000-caliber chronograph movement, a powerhouse of precision and reliability. Known for its column-wheel design, the movement offers tactile feedback when the chronograph is engaged, ensuring ease of use. The vertical dial layout enhances legibility, while the blue hands, coated in Super-LumiNova®, ensure visibility in low-light conditions. A titanium case back, engraved with the iconic “TOP GUN” logo, rounds off the design.
