IWC Schaffhausen has released the Portofino Automatic Pointer Date Laureus, the 17th special edition watch created in support of Laureus Sport for Good. This refined stainless steel model features a deep blue dial, the signature Laureus colour, with a pointer-date display at 6 o’clock. Part of the proceeds go toward Figure Skating in Harlem, a New York based programme that combines figure skating with academics and leadership training for girls. Since its founding in 2000, Laureus Sport for Good has helped over seven million young people across more than 40 countries, using sport to tackle violence, inequality, and discrimination. IWC has been a partner since 2005 and continues to support the foundation through events, awareness, and annual timepieces.
This year marks two decades of IWC’s partnership with Laureus. Franziska Gsell, Chief Marketing Officer at IWC, says the brand is proud of the impact they have helped make together, whether through the Laureus World Sports Awards or Charity Nights or by designing these special watches. The latest edition is a nod to that long running relationship and the children and programmes it benefits.
The watch itself is classically understated. It measures 39mm in stainless steel with rhodium plated hands and indices, and a blue calfskin strap with a butterfly clasp. The pointer date hand jumps at midnight, and the 35160 automatic movement delivers a 50 hour power reserve. On the case back, an engraving marks Laureus’s 25th anniversary.
