Jaeger-LeCoultre revisits the art of universal time with a new interpretation of the Master Grande Tradition Calibre 948. Limited to just 20 pieces, the 2025 edition pairs an 18K pink gold case with a richly detailed enamel dial, a stage for both horological precision and artisanal mastery. At its heart, the Calibre 948 unites a world-time complication with a flying tourbillon that completes a full rotation every 24 hours, mirroring Earth’s own rhythm as it spins on its axis.
The domed dial, created by the Métiers Rares™ atelier, is a miniature work of geography and craft. A sculpted gold map of the Northern Hemisphere floats above a sea of translucent blue lacquer, hand-guilloché to evoke the movement of waves. Each continent is defined in champlevé enamel, layered and fired repeatedly to create subtle tonal contrasts. Surrounding it, a city ring and 24-hour scale allow instant reading of world time, while the flying tourbillon glides across the dial, tracing the passage of the hours in every city simultaneously.
Powering this display, the automatic Calibre 948, comprising 388 components, embodies Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technical refinement. The world-time function is entirely crown-operated, its operation intuitive despite the complexity within. Elegant, sculptural, and deeply evocative, this new Master Grande Tradition reaffirms the Maison’s rare balance between artistic expression and mechanical intelligence.
