The Ressence Type 3 MN brings together two sharply defined design worlds: Marc Newson’s smooth, ergonomic industrial language and Benoît Mintiens’ uncompromising approach to rethinking how time is displayed. The familiar elliptical silhouette, domed sapphire crystal and oil-filled upper chamber give the watch its characteristic “floating” display, driven by the ROCS 3 system that keeps all indications in constant, fluid motion.
Newson’s touch is clear throughout. The pared-back hands nod to his Ikepod years, while the celadon green, grey, black and bright yellow accents deliver a crisp, modern palette. Under the dial, titanium discs rotate on biaxial satellites, their engraved markings filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova® for clean legibility day or night. The 4.15 ml of silicone oil cancels refraction entirely, making the indications appear as if they sit directly on the glass, an effect that still feels quietly astonishing.
The Ressence Type 3 MN reflects a shared pursuit of clarity and purpose. Both designers chased a watch reduced to its essentials yet rich in character. A piece that feels coherent, refined and thoughtfully engineered. It is, ultimately, Ressence’s philosophy made tangible: simplicity achieved through rigorous, inventive thinking.
