Urwerk UR-230 Eagle

The URWERK UR-230 “Eagle” ascends to new mechanical summits with its UR-7.30 calibre, flaunting a dual variable-geometry turbine, a double shock absorber, and a hybrid winding system. Encased in aerodynamic CTP carbon with a mobile cover, its design mimics the sleekness of a raptor. This limited edition of 35 pieces stands out with its satellite display, wandering hours, and retrograde minutes hand—all enhanced by an advanced engine and high-tech craftsmanship. Felix Baumgartner, URWERK’s co-founder, emphasizes its unique personality and performance-focused enhancements.

The UR-230 “Eagle” continues the legacy of the UR-220 with a sophisticated take on the rotating satellite complication. Hours are displayed on a three-armed carousel, and minutes are marked by a 3D retrograde aluminium hand that resets every hour. Martin Frei, the artistic director, takes pride in this iteration that preserves the series’ vitality and introduces a powerful retrograde system, akin to a bird of prey.

Innovatively, the Urwerk UR-230 “Eagle” integrates shock absorbers to protect its calibre via turbines, with a unique “air brake” system that modulates winding power based on activity levels. These adjustments are indicated on the case, which also preserves the iconic URWERK design with its trapezoidal shape and nuanced angles.

The timepiece’s cover acts as both a protector and presentation stage, opening to display the satellite system and gently closing with a braking system for a silent, precise fit. Limited to only 35 pieces, the UR-230 “Eagle” is a rare bird.
